Some visitors mention that the rooms can feel compact, primarily meant for sleeping and not cooking, which may limit longer stays for guests who prefer more extensive accommodation. Diners occasionally note that during peak times, particularly Sundays at 2 PM, the pub can become quite crowded, potentially leading to longer wait times for food and drink service.
A few comments bring attention to the need for more diverse vegetarian and vegan options, suggesting that expanding the menu could enhance the overall dining experience for those with dietary restrictions.
Stayed here 2 night stay with partner and our 2 dogs . Bed very comfy and clean , the owners are very nice and just leave you to your devises no issues there , nice to see family friendly pub and seen the family and other doggies getting involved with the great family pub .. the accommodation is cozy and compact but there is other rooms depending on what you require.. just have to eat out or eat from the pub when food is available here. Check website..tea and coffee is in the rooms and towels for the shower facility But it is for sleeping not for cooking here so be prepared for that . Porridge is in the rooms to start you of .. view the rooms and see for yourself, be daft not too .. great parking here and dog walks around the area ..great so close to northallerton and Darlington to where we have family members so great to fixate on such a lovely place to get your head down and even a lager or 2 in the pub where the barmaid was very cheerful and polite .. highly recommend this place cant wait to visit again .thanx guys ..Mark.and tracey ..
I can't fault these folks. So welcoming after a 28 mile day on the c2c (thanks NYCC for removing a path) Room was compact but lovely after camping most nights. The welcome was wonderful. Obviously a real community pub. But to top it all, the pork tenderloin stuffed with black pudding was amazing. And lovely dauphinoise and really well cooked vegetables along with it. And a luxury gravy like a jelly. And well priced! Amazing! Thanks so much.
Highly recommend. Went above and beyond what needs to be for a local pub. As outsiders they make us feel very welcome from the start. Even found us a lift home when the taxi didn’t show up. Not a bad word to say about the place.
It’s so nice to see a village pub that is so obviously the heart of the village community. The atmosphere was brilliant, the food was brilliant and the landlord and lady and their staff were all very friendly. The room was small but perfectly equipped and the bed was comfortable.
Sunday Roast excellent. Some of us had Beef, Turkey and Pork. All excellent quality, served hot and more than enough of a portion for us hungry lot. Parmo looked good too. Will definitely be back. Thanks.
Hidden gem, could not fault anything, service was amazing, food (Pork Tenderloin) spectacular 😋 I was so impressed I had the same meal both nights, bar service was exceptionally good, lovely pint of Guinness, extremely dog freindly our 2 king charles spaniels had a great time, local people very freindly and welcoming.
Camping nearby with other members of the Yorkshire Driving Club and set of Friday afternoon for a 7.5 mile warm up drive that included going through Welby. Stopped at the Duke of Wellington in the hope of an early beer. Good timing, because a group, including the owner, were on the front d parking area. Pub was opened early so we could get drinks and the lady behind the bar helped me choose a New Zealand Savignon Blanc for the lady outside. Good choice I was told. Very pleased with our visit and congratulations to the owners for making a year's ownership.
